Ideas don’t come out fully formed. They only become clear as you work on them. You just have to get started.

I wanna share what I have learned about our generation and the world we all are building together.

I am here to tell you that finding your purpose is not enough. Purpose is that feeling, that you have something bigger to work for. Purpose is, what create true happiness.

People think that FaceTime was so important for start of Facebook and it was so hard to create Facebook, but it was not.

I remember the night I launched Facebook with my friend. I remember telling him clearly, that I was so excited to help connect the harvard University, one day someone will connect the whole world. But it never occurred to me that someone might be us.

To all these companies with big technologies and great resources, it seemed that I can’t do it. But idea was clear to us. All the people wanted to connect and we kept working on it day after day.

We always faced criticism for moving too fast. There was always someone to pull us down. A big company wanted to buy us. But I wanted to see if we could connect more people. Except me, almost everyone wanted to sell the company. I wanted to see, if we could connect more people.

Without a sense of higher purpose, this was their startup dream come true. And it tore our company apart. After one particularly tense argument, one of my close advisor told me if I don’t agree to sell the company right now, I would regret this decision for the rest of my life.

Within a year, every single person in our management was gone. That was the hardest time I faced. A 22 years old kid who had no idea how things actually worked. I believed in what we were doing but I felt alone.

Now years later, I understand that how things work when there is no sense of higher purpose. It’s on all of us to create it, so we can all keep moving forward together.

J. K. Rowling got rejected tewelve times before she finally wrote and published Harry Potter. Even Beyonce had to make hundreds of songs before she succeed.

The greatest success come from having the greatest freedom to fail. Facebook wasn’t the first thing I built. I also built chat systems, games, study tools and music players but I never won.

The challenge for our generation is to create a world, where everyone has a sense of purpose.

The biggest risk is not taking any risk.
